Amplify Local Action - Cathedral in the Night

At its core, Amplify Local Action is an attempt to take funds earned through my work as a local Realtor and funnel them back into our community with an eye towards prioritizing organizations committed to raising awareness of - and providing support to those impacted by - housing issues, primarily houseless folks and the LGBTQ+ BIPOC community. You can read a little more about ALA here.

I'm excited to announce that the first featured organization of this initiative for 2022 is Cathedral in the Night.

If you read my last post, you know that Cathedral is an outdoor church who worships every Sunday, rain or shine, in front of First Churches on Main Street in downtown Northampton, and provides their congregation with a hot, hearty meal. Downtown Northampton Association's Executive Director, Amy Cahillane, says

With a church community that consists in large part of people experiencing houselessness or struggling with financial and food insecurity, Cathedral is a refuge and invaluable resource within our community. Not surprisingly, COVID has had a significant impact on Cathedral and its congregation – including Cathedral’s ability to provide a weekly meal.

Knowing the challenges facing both of these communities, we thought it timely to restart a grassroots Feed the Frontlines effort, to enable us to help Cathedral feed their community while giving our restaurants a financial boost during what is otherwise a very quiet time, even in the best of years.

As a DNA board member, I heard this call for help and decided to answer. Having recently closed a transaction on 89 Market St. in Northampton - a stone's throw from downtown's business district - I thought, wouldn't it be great to take money from this local closing, invest it into a local restaurant that might benefit from a small boost, who will then share 100 hot, fresh meals with a local organization and its constituents who are currently struggling with food and housing insecurity?

But what I *really* want to do is even more than that.

What if we - together - DOUBLE that? What if, instead of one week's worth of meals we can provide TWO? Instead of one hundred meals we can provide two hundred. What if, instead of one boost to one restaurant, we create multiple boosts to multiple restaurants??

So what does that mean?

It means I pledge to match up to and including $1,500 worth of donations to the Northampton DNA that will go directly towards a local restaurant to supply a filling meal for a local community member.

I'm super excited to be kicking off Amplify Local Action in this way as it speaks to the heart and soul of what I hope to do moving forward. I invite you to join me, whether you have $1 or $100, by visiting this page here and clicking on the yellow 'donate' button between now and March 7. Earmark your donation with Feed the Frontlines and I will match whatever comes in from now until then. Let's do it!
